THE PLOT:

In Earth year 10191 on the planet Arrakis, Duke Leto Atreides and his family take there place on Arrakis. What makes this dust speck on the map of the universe so special. Spice, a rare mineral or ore or something I don't know. But apparently whatever it is, whoever controls it, controls the universe and an Empire is willing to go to war to control said spice.

Now Arrakis has been conquered and Duke Leto Atreides is dead. His son Paul barely escapes and begins to form a revolutin with Spice miners. But what is Spice? Is it a narcotic? A herb? I can't say, I can say this. It's worm poop. All this trouble for monster worm poop.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

They say how David Lynch is this brilliant Director. They don't mean it, but they say it. They call him brillant, because they don't understand a single f***ing thing going on. Dune is no exception, it's very confusing at points. Spice is worm poop, that they explain, but God I hope they don't eat that crap. I would really like a tour of Lynch's mind, see where the hamster fell off the wheel. But on the good side, it's exciting, for the most part. It has impressive effects for 1984. The story works, when it's not confusing. My other complaint, why does whispering respusent thinking. Japanese anime don't have thinking as a whisper, that was just dumb. I give DUNE, the "Masterpiece".....6 STARS

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

I agree about the confusing thing. But that seems to be the trademark of David Lynch, does anyone truely understand TWIN PEAKS. I'm sorry David, but leaving the audence out of the loop isn't brillant directing. It's stupid, put down the crack pipe and learn how to tell a story without all the freakin' artsy fartsy crap! Anyway, my only other major complaint with Dune is how unGodly long it is, the cut down version was over two hours and the special editon that just came out is 190 minutes. What is this, the WAR AND PEACE of space Operas? I did like it more then ZEDD did and I give it...8 STARS

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

+ CAST (We both loved the all star cast in this one.)
+ EFFECTS (Considering it was 1984, amazing effects)
+ STORY (For the most part was passable.)
+ CHARACTERS (The characters were likeable.)

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- CONFUSING (It was hard to follow at times.)
- WHAT WAS SPICE USED FOR? (Can somebody explain this to me?)
- WHISPERING (What's with the whispering to respusent thinking?)

AND FINALLY....

- LONG (At 190 minutes, you better make sure you have nothing else planned for the next three or four hours!)
