THE PLOT:
Something is wrong at the Tromaville nuclear power plant, very wrong. Leaks containating the local school's drinking water,
the honor role mutating into out of control violent punks and contaminated pot growing right outside the plants very door.
Warren and Chrissy are two normal teenagers trying to go about a normal life in the mist of the leaking insanity. But
when a friend is forced to buy some of the mutant pot he gives it to Warren to use at a party to loosen Chrissy up.
It works, and their first time may be the last time for everyone else at school, for a mutant offspring was produced by
the encounter which is hanging out at the school basement.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Okay, like everything that comes from Troma, this is not for the faint of heart and if you don't like senseless violence in
your movies then steer clear of CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH. I think they go over the top on certain things in these movies and
it can get in the way of the story. The creature effects are impressive considering it's 1986. The story is a tad strange
and the acting is over the top at places. But it's also a comedy, so the over the top acting and effects might be part of
the dark humor. All and all an entertaining movie and the sequels are good in their own right, they also have their own flaws,
but I will get to them when the time comes. I give the first and best CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH 9 STARS.
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I wasn't quite as impressed as ZEDD was with the Class of Nuke 'Em High series, I found all them on the corny side. Even
for dark humor. I didn't like the way the punks ruled the school and when the Principle finally showed some backbone they
kill him. I'm sorry doesn't Tromaville have any Police? Any "Law Enforcement"? Zedd made a point about the effects
and the creature effects. All very impressive and one of the best person melting effects of the 1980s without the help of
CGI. I give CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH...6 STARS.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ STORY (The story is very effective and thought provoking.)
+ CREATURE EFFECTS (Some of the best creature effects of the decade.)
+ MELTING MAN (Best melting man effects other then THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN.)
+ CAST (The cast does a good job with what they were given.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- DIALOG (The dialog was kind of corny.)
- PUNKS (Why did the punks rule the school for so long?)
- THE LAW (Did the leaking nuclear plant mutate the cops into whimps?)
AND FINALLY...
- RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE (If you aren't into graphic, really graphic violence or teens smoking pot. Then this isn't the
flick for you.)
